Don faults establishment of transport varsity in Daura

A senior academic at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Ibrahim Musa, has faulted the citing of proposed University of Transport Technology in Daura, home town of President Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina state.

This was contained in his statement that went viral. He faulted the decision by the federal government to establish the said varsity in the state.

Professor Jaro opined that instead of wasting the nation’s resources, it would have been better to upgrade the already established “Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria to the status of a university.

The statement reads: “I am not against the establishment of University of Transportation Technology in Daura. But my reasons are that Zaria has all the vocational and other supportive educational advantages. It has ABU Zaria, NCAT, one time Nigerian railway headquarter to draw human resources that can manage and lecture adequately.

“Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) Zaria has benefited and is growing up by utilising its proximity to these mentioned institutions.

“NITT has enough space, standard, physical structures and well trained human resources to handle and manage a university. Establishing a new University of Transport Technology far away amounts to duplication and waste of resources.”
