By the time this report is out, Princess Victoria Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire would have been presented with the national honour of the Officer of the Member of the Federal Republic (OFR) extending her record creating feats.
Breaking records has become second nature for this quintessential Awori Princess who has continued to be a leading light for women in particular, and her Awori clan in general, yet remains her humble self: selfless and accommodating who is always ready to render a helping hand.
On 14 January, 1992, Princess Orelope-Adefulire was sworn-in as a member of the Third Assembly of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Alimoso State Constituency I. Then, she became, alongside with Mrs Bola Banjo, the first females to be elected into the Assembly. Then at the age of 32, she was the arguably youngest member of that House. But being the first female and youngest member did not deter her, she left her mark.
When she was appointed a member of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) in 2002, she became the first woman to be appointed into the electoral body.
In 2003, when she was appointed Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2003, she created another record, becoming the first former female member of the state Assembly to be appointed into the state Cabinet.
When she was picked as running mate to Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN for the Lagos State Governorship election in 2011 which they won and she subsequently the first former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly to assume the position.
In 1999, she was appointed the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Princess Orelope-Adefulire created another record. She became first former member of the Lagos Assembly to hold the position. Apart from this, she is the first woman from the southwest region to hold the office and first person ever to hold the office for eight years of two consecutive terms.
Now our dear Princess is being decorated with the OFR award and another record is created becoming alongside with Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, the first former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly to be given national honour.
