Dear President-Elect, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu: Appoint an indigene of FCT, Abuja, as minister

By Abdulrahman Salihu

Dear President-elect, I write to you today as a concerned indigene of FCT, Abuja, a city that is the capital of our great country, Nigeria. I write with a heavy heart and deep sense of sadness over the marginalization of the indigenous people of FCT Abuja, who have suffered for too long without adequate representation in government.

Your Excellency Sir, I am aware of your reputation as a man of your word, an honest and truthful leader who keeps his promises. It is in this light that I plead with you to fulfill the promise you made during your campaign, which is to appoint an indigene of FCT Abuja as Minister. For too long, we have watched as other states and regions of the country have been adequately represented in government, while our own people are left out in the cold. No indigene of FCT Abuja has ever been appointed as Minister. This is a great injustice that needs to be addressed.

As an indigene of FCT Abuja, I can tell you that nobody from another state in Nigeria would understand the struggle of our people. We have been marginalized and forgotten for too long, and we deserve better. Past presidents including the present one, have failed their promises to appoint an indigene of the FCT, Abuja as Minister. I implore Your Excellency sir, to be different, to be the leader who will bring change and justice to the people of the FCT.

The FCT has only one senator representing it in the Senate and two members in the House of Representatives, which do not reflect adequate representation for the people of the FCT. We are not happy about this. We want to be adequately represented in government and the immediate area to start with is the appointment of an indigene of the FCT as a minister to form part of Your Excellency’s cabinet.

Sir, I plead with you to fulfill your promise to appoint an indigene of FCT Abuja as Minister. This will not only give us a sense of belonging and representation but will also foster unity and promote the spirit of oneness in our great country.

If the famous symbol on Your Excellency’s cap signifies breaking free from shackles, then you are certainly the man for the job, the one we trust to help us breakaway from the shackles that have been put around us.

Those that know you well and even your adversaries, know that you are a just and fair leader. You have demonstrated the traits of justice and fairness from the beginning of your political career till date and that is why we believe that Your Excellency will fulfil his promise and help wipe the tears of the marginalized indigenes of the FCT.

Ideally, I am not supposed to raise this second issue, but as my people would say ” the mouth that remains closed never gets fed”, which means that, if you do not open your mouth and ask for something, it cannot be given to you. With that being said, I would like to also plead with Your Excellency to consider some of the great and talented minds that we have as indigenes of the FCT, as Special Assistants, Technical Assistants and any other roles that you deem fit for our people.

It is with no doubt that I believe that this message will get to Your Excellency and that you will, in your magnanimity grant the wishes of the indigenous people of the FCT.

May we live to witness Your Excellency’s seamless Swearing-in Ceremony and may the Almighty Allah (SWA) never leave you to your yourself, even for the blink of an eye, throughout your tenure. Amin
