Ohanaeze denies plan to participate in Tinubu’s inauguration

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has denied media reports that it would participate fully in the inauguration of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2023.

One Okechukwu Isiguzoro had last week claimed that “Ohanaeze will participate fully in the inauguration of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu.”

He also claimed that “the Ime-Obi Ohanaeze Ndigbo has mandated that every agitation for the 2023 election should come to an end,” while stating that “Peter Obi is the candidate of the future and that nobody should pick up a fight they can’t finish, against Bola Tinubu.”

But reacting in a statement issued on Tuesday in Enugu, the National Publicity Secretary of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Alex Chiedozie Ogbonnia, described the report as false and misleading.

Ogbonna explained, “The Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo is Ambassador Okey Emuchay. The said Okechukwu Isiguzoro is a meddlesome interloper who uses the hallowed name of Ohanaeze Ndigbo for narrow interests.”

Ogbonnia further stated, “We have at various times informed the unsuspecting public to ignore the mischief makers as impostors, charlatans and media navigators who leech on the invaluable footprints of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to issue press releases for narrow, perverse and illicit pecuniary interests.

“However, since silence may be misconstrued as giving validity to such a whimsical figment of a transactional imagination, this rebuttal becomes very imperative,” he added. (Punch)
