Sallah Durbar: Bayero writes Kano CP, requests special security

The 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has on Wednesday requested special security from the Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Usaini Gumel, ahead of the planned Sallah Durbar celebration in the state.


However, in a swift reaction, the Commissioner of Police, CP Usaini Gumel, has denied receiving the letter, nor have the other security agencies.


A copy of the letter contained in the letter head of Bayero’s Private Secretary (name undisclosed) and addressed to the Commissioner of Police requested special security arrangements for conduct of Sallah festivities (Eid-El Kabir) in Kano.


The letter reads, “I’m directed by His Highness, The Emir of Kano, Alh Aminu Ado Bayero, based on case number FHC/KN/CS/182/2004 in which the court ordered that Status Qou be maintained, I hear by write to convey His appreciation and sincere gratitude on your contributions and facilitation of peace and stability in Kano State during the period of Emirate Crisis. His Highness and the people of Kano are very grateful, indeed.


“Similarly, His Highness instructed me to request for special security arrangements for conduct of Sallah festivities (Eid-El Kabir) in Kano which commences on Sunday 16th of May 2024 to Thursday 20th of May 2024. All activities will emanate from Nassarawa Mini Palace in Kano.


“These festivities are significant Cultural and Religious events that attract a large number of Participants and Spectators from within and outside of Kano.


“In the light of the importance of maintaining peace, order, and security during these celebrations, we kindly request the support and assistance of your esteem Agency towards successful accomplishment of the events.



“Detail on daily activities are as follows: Sunday 16th May 2024-Eid prayer at Kofar Mata Prayer ground and Hawan Daushe on Monday 17th May 2024 at 4.00 pm.


“Other activities includes, Hawan Nassarawa on Tuesday 18th May 2024 from 8.00 am and Hawan Zagayen gari on Thursday 20th May 2024 from 8.00 am,” the statement, however, reads.


However, reacting to the letter, the Commissioner of Police, CP Usaini Gumel told newsmen that the police is yet to receive any letter neither is the other security agencies.


In his words, “The police is yet to be served. Neither any of the security agencies in the state. You are a journalist kindly extend investigation to the purported kingmaker that signed the letter, as it could be a mere propaganda tool,” CP Gumel replied.


Meanwhile, a credible source close to the 15th Emir told this reporter he got an acknowledgement copy of the letter sent to the Commissioner of Police.


Recall that the 15th Emir, Bayero, had on Tuesday directed the district heads to get prepared to join him for the Sallah Durbar in the ancient city of Kano.
