Abati: I thought I could rattle Tinubu during media chat — but he knows what he’s doing

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has commended President Bola Tinubu for ordering the release of minors detained in connection with the #EndBadGovernance protests.

APGA described this decision as a strong display of the president’s compassion and commitment to justice.

In a statement signed by APGA National Chairman Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Tony Ogbonna, Ezeokenwa highlighted that the president’s directive to release detained minors underscores a commitment to protecting vulnerable young Nigerians.

“This decisive action, mandating the immediate release of all detained minors without compromising the law, reflects the administration’s dedication to justice and the protection of children’s rights and dignity,” Ezeokenwa said.

According to the statement, approximately 32 malnourished minors had been held for three months awaiting trial. Ezeokenwa emphasized that their release is a testament to the administration’s dedication to safeguarding the rights of children.

The APGA Chairman also called on President Tinubu to extend similar empathy towards addressing the prolonged detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). He noted that Kanu’s release could contribute to national peace and help address the security challenges facing the South East.

“The release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will help to calm tensions and tackle the lingering security issues impacting the South East region and neighboring areas,” he said. “A fair resolution to his case will foster trust and stability, creating an environment for constructive dialogue and progress.”

Ezeokenwa argued that Kanu’s release should be a top priority, as it has the potential to ease unrest and foster reconciliation. He called for urgent action from the government, stating, “Now is the time for the government to prioritize actions that restore unity; this gesture could be a defining moment for peace across the South East and Nigeria as a whole.”

The APGA National Chairman reaffirmed the party’s commitment to a united Nigeria that respects the rights of all citizens and expressed hope that the federal government will continue to promote peace, security, and equitable treatment for all Nigerians.
